FEVER DREAMS
“Hi, Just to summarise what we talked about on the phone, we are working on a little project at the moment and we are looking for a director who could possibly direct and edit this online zoom play about a theatre company during Covid-19.” – Sairah Erens – Executive Director at the Orange Theatre Company
Screen Life
That’s how it started, and what it eventually became was a highly ambitious 20 minute length short film. The story? Amsterdam, April 2020. The COVID-19 lockdown makes Shiro Nguru (a former lawyer and the director of Fever Theatre Company) and her friends unemployed. What’s more, it puts their planned production of King Lear on the rocks.
“It has momentum, the acting is good, the dialogue snappy, and the use of Zoom in the staging is ingenious and recognizable.”
-Theaterkrant
The whole film is told through Shiro’s computer screen in the so-called ScreenLife style. Working together with co-director and screenwriter Kristine Johanson, Wild Meep produced the film, designed the look, and edited. The film premiered in Amsterdam and online to positive reviews in dutch publications and even won best film at the Amsterdams Buurt Film Festival
Starring: Shiro Mungai, Joanna Lucas, Tamara Richards, Matthew Carney, James Johnson, Loveday Smith, and Grant Brown.
